Alaa El-Shafei is currently based in Sana'a, Yemen, as on official with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). He has previously worked for the Cairo Center for Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution and has published research articles in the Strategic Studies a series, a quarterly publication of the al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies. He holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and is an MA candidate at the Columbia University School of Public Affairs' International Relations program.
